NOODLES, BEANCURD & OTAH @ Jalan Kayu

1) HE JI NOODLES

This route of eating, from noodles to beancurd is the NORM for me whenever I am over at Jalan Kayu for lunchie.

First, I will head to He Ji for their QQ noodles. I love chilli, but with this noodles, I like the version with just the black sauce (and no chilli). I ordered the Noodles with dumplings today.
*note: Go for their Mee-Gia, their Mee-Pok somehow just ain't tasty.

The dumplings that came with my noodles. Nice and tasty.

This is their regular noodles with charsiew. Not sure whether they marinate their own char siew but there sure is lots of room for improvement on their roast. IMHO, what they serve was merely colored meat, not roasted char siew.

But, undeniable, their noodles is good. Very the Q ^^

Their fried wanton with paper-thin skin and mayo dip makes an irresistable appetizer. When u pop, u can't stop.

Ordered something different today. We tried their fried wings. It was just out from the fryer, skin was crispy, meat was tender and not over-fried. Not bad.

2) SELEGIE SOYA BEAN (jalan kayu branch)
Then, I'll head for my favorite soya beancurd. Mr Bean, Jollybean just can't match up with THIS beancurd. Its so smooth it practically melts in your mouth.

Thanxs to an evil counterpart, I have change from my usual soymilk WITHOUT SUGAR SYRUP to soy milk WITH GULA MELAKA.
But, really. This is so darn sinfully yummy.

3) HIANG SOON OTAH
The famous Jalan Kayu Otah.
I grab more than a dozen of spicy & non-spicy (for the princess) on the way back.

THE LINE @ Shangri La

It was one of our bimonthly gals-only food galore. It was Crabby Tue nite, and to celebrate
Shang's 39th year anniversary, u get 39% knocked off the total bill if you make reservations online : )

I was not sure whether someone holding a chunky cam walking around the buffet counters will be welcome (and I didn't ask), thus no pics of food. And the nice little cosy corner we were given was so romantically (aka dimly) lit up. Well, the wonderful company I had yesterday made photo-taking insignificant.

Crabby nite was a little disappointing, variety of crabs were miserable and the crabs were... tiny?
But other than that, buffet spread was decent but nothing to wow about. Its my 2nd time at The Line in the past month and reasons why I am back is primarily because:-
1) Freeflow of champagne.
2) Service was thumbs up.
3) Its a wonderful place, not too loud with nice atmosphere for friends to catch up.

Another priceless nite with the gals. Thank you ^^
(ps: let's plan our next galore)

WATAMI JAPANESE CASUAL RESTAURANT @ Raffles City

Somebody had cravings for Jap cuisine, so here we are.
Hungry was definitely an understatement for us today.

Watami Salad

My little man decided to have this, he actually didn't order his fav udon! Luckily Mommy knows best, ordered a bowl of plain udon (lightly flavored with the soup from my sukiyaki) which he gladly slurped up.
Nothing special about this salad, just your usual greens + tuna.

Edamame Beans
A must order for my little princess each time we eat Jap. She loves the beans, and will rattle on about how mommy dearest will give her the bean pod as a teether when she was a baby.

Yaki Udon
This was nicey! Fried Udon Noodles.. very very tasty.

Sushi Grandeur
Salmon, grilled eel and tuna. Look at the salmon belly fats... drool...

Wafu Hitokuchi Steak
Hotplate bite-size beef steak. Medium rare. Right doneness, yummily marinated, just right chewiness. Thumbs up.

Wafu Pizza
Japanese Pizza with Chashu and Teriyaki Chicken.
If you are someone who don't like their pizza to be heavy on the flour, this is good.. and really really thin, like paper thin.
I love this pizza, tasty not bland, thin not thick and it does not give you the bloated aftermath of consuming too much bread ( :

Sukiyaki Nabe

This pic is to highlight the FATS of the beef. Look at it... gosh, I can have a whole plate of it.
(A pact has been made to have a Sukiyaki pork+beef-dip-in-jap-sauce-hotpot style serve with wine at XXX place soon... very soon).

This was one good meal. Mainly because we went just approaching lunch peak, thus we didn't have to queue, service was decent and food was fab!

(pardon me, I am hungry at 1am. Can't pen much. Let the pics do the talking. Dang, foodblogging in the middle of the nite is SO NOT RIGHT.)

HOCK HENG BEEF LAKSA @ Blk 233 Ang Mo Kio

I love beef.
I love laksa.
This is Beef Laksa ( :

Strategically located near Uncle Leong Seafood (Blk 233, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. Its the coffeeshop just opposite Mellben), this little stall has garnered many awards and recommendations.

This was indeed something very different. The beef was tender and sweet though I would have prefer if they slice it up a little bigger rather than clump up many thin and small slices. The gravy was pretty decent (don't forget to mix in the chilli given, it makes a whole lot of difference) though I find it a tad too watery.
Ha, just minuscule gripes. I will definitely head back for more ( :

Quoting my bro: " This is HUMful."
They were generous in the cockles they gave and oh yes it's definitely not healthy, but gimme another plate anytime : P

Mixed Beef Soup.
Oooohh, how I love my moomoo. Fresh beef, sirloin, beef stomach, beef tendon, beef tripe, beef balls.
The tendon was melt-in-the mouth and the tripe, stomach was tender to the bite. And the chinchalok+chili was a great dip!
The soup didn't have the robust and strong taste unlike some others, but maybe it's because they didn't add much msg? Well, I sure didn't have a thirst for water thereafter : )

THANKS to a gorgeous lady for the reccomendation, I will definitely be back ( :

Another gluttony day with my bro.
Pics of the applecheesecake which we had barely 30mins after this has not been posted.

THE HANDBURGER @ Raffles City

I have always wanted to try their burgers and finally did today ( :

I wanted to order their Handburger Original initially but decided that I have had too many burgers out of beef patties. Thus I went for something DIFFERENT. Their Chef Special Tea-Smoked Duck burger!
Tea-smoked duck breast with mandarin orange, shredded leek, handmade peanut sesame sauce on a bed of coral lettuce and tomato on a toasted honey wholewheat multi-grain bun! Just a word, woah.
It was actually good, the combi was divine. Seriously, I never thought duck could actually taste good in between 2 buns and serve as a burger!

For a min, I was worried I will get really dried duck breast (I never quite fancy the breast meat, I am more of a "dark" person) but they prove me wrong. The duck was not the least bit dry and meat was oh-so-tasty with good layers of fatty skin.. YUMS!
The glutton me wanted to clamp both buns and chomp on the burger with ONE HUMONGOUS bite but it was nearly impossible. Burger was too huge for pouty mouth *ahem*. In the end, I had cut it up chunk by chunk and devour it bit by bit.
(I was with a friend today, had to pretend to be lady-like. Wait for me, I shall wolf you down in 4 bites the next time round)

My pal had this, the Handburger Original.
Grilled 150g of 100% N.Z ribeye beef patty, sweet onion jam, cheddar cheese, handmade bbq sauce on a bed of coral lettuce, tomato on a toasted caramelised onion bun. My friend had a "bloody" experience with another restaurant when he last ordered his burger medium rare and thus opt for well done this time round.
The patty was good and the portobello mushrooms toppings were flavorful. But of course, medium-rare doneness would have added more points to the burger ( :

We opt for the $4 top up for each of our burger to get a salad (there are other choices like fries, chilled stuffed tomato, soup..etc) + a drink.
I actually missed out the chilled tomato which looks really interesting and had the mundane mixed greens salad instead. Duh.

Will definitely be back to try the rest of the burgers ^^

POPEYES @ Punggol

Newly opened last December, this latest addition is located at 10 Tebing Lane, off Punggol East Road. *if i get my facts right*, this outlet is gorgeously located along the  proposed Punggol Waterway which they are still building. Along the stretch is Frienzie Bistro & Bar which is in operation & é˛œseafood restaurant which I have no idea whether it's open for biz yet.

Meat-> tender but lack that fatty/oily substance to make it finger-licking good.

Skin-> Too skinny! Ain't crispy enough. Some might like it because it's not as oily as KFC, but really, healthy is not exactly an appropriate word associated with fried chicken : P

Biscuit-> Was this a rave? Pardon me, it was neither a biscuit nor a muffin to me, and did they not bake it long enough? The floury taste was kinda of strong. Prefer Kenny Roger's muffins anytime.

The Cajun Fries was good. Nicely salted, lightly crisp and soft inside. YUMS.

The coleslaw was nice too, cabbage was chunky, not too thinly slice and not "drowned" in dressing. Love the sound of crunchcrunch when i bite into them.. shiok : )

This was the eyeopener. This is so good! Mash potato in cajun-style gravy.
Potato was soft and fluffy, not powdery and there were actually bits and pieces of chicken in the gravy. Can i say it again, woah!

Read alot of reviews on the horrendous service but I was met with smiling, overly-courteous, zealous service staff that day. The place was packed when I stepped in and I actually had 1 service staff + 1 manager/supervisor serving me at the counter.
Even before I tucked in, their service won me over.

Then, I realise. the place was packed with their own cohort of management personnels. Saw all of them donning the same polo tee. LOL! Must be some kind of site-survey that day. I sincerely hope the service I receive was not for show.
With such a scenic (future) and easily accessible location, let's just hope their service stays ^^

NUTELLA

Who can resist this...

The biggest tub I found in Singapore was the 750g, and I always keep 2 tubs of those in the kitchen. Why can't they bring in those GIGANTIC tubs from Germany? Hmmph..

Oooh.. and I don't spread my nutella. I HEAP them on my bread, at least a good 1-cm thick : )
Have u tried the Baker's Choice Butter Bread from Crystal Jade? It taste soo good on its own and even better with nutella.

AND, if I didn't have to set "good examples" for my kids, I would hog a tub, couch infront of the tv and scoop it like ice cream : D

TEOCHEW SLICE FISH SOUP @ Compass Point Kopitiam

Thickly sliced fish that won't crumble at the grip of chopsticks.

Salted Bean Sauce + Chili Padi = SHIOK!
According to my Majesty (aka my mudder), she says traditional Teochew slice fish soup always serve salted bean sauce as a dip.
*tsk tsk.. shame on me, its my root, and I didn't know*

I love going to this stall at Kopitiam, where they serve scrumpilicious piping hot slice fish soup with bitter gourd. What goes in the bowl is mackerel thickly sliced, bitter gourd, tofu, lettuce, seaweed and tomato.
Doesn't this dish just scream "HEALTHY"? : )

BEN & JERRY's

My comfort food for the disappointing lunch.

MEE REBUS @ Banquet Parkway Parade

The last time I was there, I saw many plates of this mee rebus on many tables. It looked good. The plate that it was served in looks.. HUGE.

Finally got to try it today. The bowl was huge. So was the serving.

The noodles looked "drowned" in chinese parsley, shallots, bean sprouts and green chili. Gravy was a tad too thick for my liking and noodles a little too soft, I always prefer my noodles al dente. And gosh, the heaps of green chili they tossed in could set my mouth ablaze, I gave up picking them out when I saw the zillions of chili seeds:- my myopia will increase if I even make an attempt.
The generous sprinkle of condiments was an overkill, everything was so jumble up I can't differentiate what I was putting into my mouth.

And, I have never had a plate of mee rebus in Singapore served American-portion. I could barely finish half of it.

What they provide in quantity, they compromise on the quality :(

PASTA DE WARAKU @ Square 2 Novena

Salmon, Avocado & Tofu Salad

Seafood pasta (in thick soup)

Bacon Carbonara

If I count the amount of calories & carbs I have consumed today, I will sink into a depression mode.

A friend of mine came down from KL for a visit, with the family in tow. Didn't wanted them to travel far, didn't wanted to bring them for chinese cuisine (KL has all the great roadside stalls), and gotto find a place child friendly. So here we are, Waraku! Might not be the best choice, but its the first place I thought of.

I ordered the "usual" Bacon Carbonara (yes, that seems to be on my table each time I patronise Waraku), Salmon Avocado Toufu Salad (another of my "usual") and Seafood Pasta in thick soup.

The carbonara as "usual" was cooked nicely Al Dente with generous servings of the oh-so-irresistable bacon. The salad never fail to wow me with the perfect mix of toufu, avocado and salmon sizzled with sweet Japanese sauce.

BUT.. I DIDN'T get to try the seafood pasta :(

Cay slurped it all up in less than 15mins while I was busy doing my catching up  :S
The pic is all I have got. *argh*.

The next time I am there, will deviate my "usual" and try something "unusual' : )

Oh, I do have ONE gripe.. Having asked to refill my water for more than 3 times and no one did, their service do need some ameliorating. But guess I was in good company today, that slipup was soon forgotten.

1A CURRY PUFF @ Tampines Mall

There seems to be some story buzzing online about an Ah Ma who is the originator of 1A curry puffs (operates at Henderson) and the worker (who used to work for her) who had another stall that eventually bloomed out into many franchises in Singapore.

I have not tried the version over at Henderson, but whenever I pass by one of the franchises, which is an easier find with that many outlets, I never fail to grab 1 and munch.

They have all sorts of weird flavors like chocolate, pepper crab, otah, corn and even durian.
I still like my puff original, with the potato and egg ( :

Love the multi-layered crispy skin and the filling is really moist but wish they could level up on the spiciness though : )

IKEA @ tampines

Meatballs with cranberry sauce

Baked Salmon

Ikea irresistable wings

Daim cake

We need no further introduction, do we?  :)
When I am with my glutton bro, I tend to overeat.. seriously overeat.
*yah, blame it all on him since I doubt he reads blogs*

And that was for lunch. Yet to post the puff which I took for tea break and the upcoming dinner appointment.

DESSERT FIRST @ Liang Seah St

There was this dessert place along Liang Seah Street which serve pretty decent sesame paste (don't remember the name of the shop though).

Went hunting for it today as I was craving for some sesame paste to "strengthen" my hair follicles *lame excuse for gluttony*

Either the shop didn't survive (but I remember its always on full house) or its closed for CNY but nonetheless, there was ANOTHER competitor opened just side by side.

Well, Bo Her Hay Ma Hou (hokkien translation for No Fish, Prawn also can).
We sat and ordered their "Must try" Durian Snow Ice for D, Chocolate Fantasy for Cay and Ash's favorite Mango sago with Pomelo.
Me? I taxed everyone's orders.. else how do I blog? :P

Durian Snow Ice
This was pretty good. Generous scoops of real durian mash + durian paste heaped on top of thinly sliced snow ice.

Chocolate Fantasy
Chocolate sauce was a tad too diluted. And those fish biscuits compliment hot milo better.. not with shaved ice.
Hmmm, if only they use Hershey Chocolate Syrup instead...

Mango sago with pomelo
 Sago was watery. Disappointing.
